Our Mission
Our Mission Brown Temple Community Church is a church engaged in serving the physical and spiritual needs of the community. We are here to support those seeking positive, God-centered changes in their lives, those who want to learn to live a holy lifestyle, and those who seek a deeper relationship with Christ. At Brown Temple we practice Word, Prayer, and Praise: The Word of God is the light of guidance. Prayer increases faith and hope, and Praise - we give thanks for all of God’s provisions. We are helpers, one to another, promoting charity and compassion.

Our History
Meet Our Founders
The Brown Temple Church is the first black Pentecostal Church in Union City. Serenely situated in a very visible part of the Decoto District, the Brown Temple Church of God In Christ, Founded by Rev. David Joe Brown, Sr. in 1974 under the name of Union City Mission Church of God in Christ. He and his wife Queen Ester Brown came to Union City in 1970. The very first church, the Union City Mission Church of God In Christ, was located at 3801 Smith St. in the Alvarado District.
Pastor Jerome L. Brown Sr. took over leadership in December 1999. Pastor Brown served as Union City's first Certified Fire Chaplain from 2005-2010. In 2010 Union City’s Fire Department joined Alameda County Fire Department and he continues to serve as a
Certified Fire Chaplain.
From 1997-1999, he served on the Human Relations Commission, which promotes understanding, respect, and goodwill among all citizens. Union City had its first Pastor’s Alliance led by Pastor JL after the historical terrorist act of 9/11 which he was asked to lead the city of Union City in prayer and healing.
The church is very active in the community with the David Joe Brown Sr. Memorial Scholarship, Bonnie Rowland Counseling Center, Food Pantry, Union City caravan program, and BT Productions. Our community services also include various youth group programs educating young adults on how to manage their finances as well as creating resumes, LinkedIn profiles,
and mock interviews for employment.
